City Academy Norwich are celebrating after becoming the second Norfolk secondary school in 5 years to achieve the prestigious afPE (Association for Physical Education) quality mark for PE and school sport. The award is the bench mark and industry standard for high quality PE provision.
Created in 2013, The quality mark is awarded to schools that can demonstrate a commitment to high quality PE. It follows a rigorous self review and independent evaluation process, measuring the strength and quality of physical education and sport within the academy.
The Association said:
The Academy is on a journey where rapid progress is being made. The PE department are doing an exceptional job in supporting its pupils. They know where they are, what they need to do to continue to improve and have a very strong ethos and vision.
Leadership and management of the subject is outstanding and there is a consistency of approach to planning, delivery and assessment.
The award of Quality Mark will recognise the incredible progress that the staff and pupils have made over the last two years in particular.
With the ambitious target of creating a ‘World Class’ PE, sport and Physical Activity provision and many developments in the pipeline, it will be exciting to see how far they can go over the next three years!
Mr Moggan, Director of Sport at CAN, said "We are delighted to have achieved the afPE quality mark; it is recognition of the fantastic progress the school has made in this area over the last 3 years, following the result of a lot of hard work from students and staff alike. We have ambitious plans over the next 3 years to develop our provision further to improve life chances for every single young person at CAN through PE and school sport."
