"On the 4th July, a group of nearly 30 City Academy students ventured to the beautiful, historic setting of Norwich Cathedral for the annual Norfolk Children’s Book Festival. The festival, which is organised by Norwich School, brought together hundreds of schoolchildren from across Norfolk, and featured talks and workshops from several leading children’s authors.
Mark Walden, author of the H.I.V.E. (Higher Institute of Villainous Education) book series, gave an energetic talk on his love of villainous characters, and how every time a book is read, it’s a unique experience for the reader. Helen Dennis spoke on how she began writing in an outside toilet, and enthralled students with her tales of alchemy and ecclesiastical symbolism. Sarah Mussi spoke about the building blocks behind a story, and how she developed the concept underpinning her book series over the course of a single weekend. Students were enthralled by Dave Rudden, author of the Knights of the Borrowed Dark series, who gave an extremely entertaining talk on how stories and ideas can come from anywhere and how everyone’s unique experience make us all storytellers.
Students had the opportunity to get their books signed by the authors, and to explore the grounds of the cathedral and Norwich School. A lovely day was enjoyed by all!"
