Ofsted Inspection

Inspection of City Academy Norwich by Ofsted

We have just told your child's school that we will inspect it on 26 April 2017. The lead inspector will be John Wilson. We are writing to you because we would like to know what you think about the school. Please take a few minutes to read the leaflet which came with this letter. It explains why we inspect schools, and what happens during an inspection.

Your views about the school are important to us

Operation Encompass

I am writing to inform you that the school will be taking part in a jointly run operation between Norfolk County Council, Norfolk Police and our school, it is called Operation Encompass. Encompass has been set-up to help schools to provide support to children who have been present at incidents of domestic violence. We know that children can be significantly physically or emotionally harmed when they are involved in, present or witness to domestic violence.

Who to contact about your child

At City Academy we are committed to working with students, parents and carers to build a strong relationship so our students can achieve their best.  One of the most important parts of this partnership is contact between home and the academy.  This guide shows who to contact if you have concerns about your child and how to contact them.  We hope this will help you communicate with us so we can work together to support your child.

Behaviour, Attendance etc.

This term has seen our students work really hard on making excellent progress in learning and improving their behaviour.  Our students’ efforts have been repaid and we hope you enjoyed hearing about your child’s progress during the Progress Review Days.  Here we would like to share some information with you that shows the improvements in behaviour that we are seeing everyday around the academy.

Attendance at School and Legal Intervention

Research commissioned by the Department for Education shows missing school for even a day can mean a child is less likely to achieve good grades, which can have a damaging effect on their life chances.  At City Academy Norwich our aim is to work with parents to ensure that all our pupils receive the most from their education and reach their full potential.

Sports Day July 2016

This year Sports Day is on Thursday 7th July and will be held at the UEA Sportspark from 9:00am until 3:00pm. We now have four House Colours that will be competing against each other on the day.

Your child should arrive to school prepared for the day and will need to bring with them:

Year 11 Academy Uniform

At City Academy Norwich we place an emphasis on pride in our school uniform. We believe firmly that if our students are smartly dressed in a uniform consistent with our Academy policy, they will be prepared for work in the classroom. As your child prepares for their Year 11 GCSE’s it is also important that they attend these examinations in full school uniform to meet Exam Regulations. In addition, many students will be attending college, apprenticeship and job interviews where they will be expected to wear a pair of smart trousers or a skirt and a pair of smart shoes.

Academy Uniform

At City Academy Norwich we place an emphasis on pride in our school uniform. We believe firmly that if our students are smartly dressed in a uniform consistent with our Academy policy, they will be prepared for work in the classroom. Following a number of conversations with parents and students last term I am writing to provide clarity on our current expectations regarding this very important matter.

Uniform Change to Tie

I am writing to inform you of the changes we are making to our Academy tie from Monday 29th February 2016. The change has been based on comments made by parents, students and staff. This decision has also been supported by a thorough consultation from the Student Council.
