Extended Curriculum

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh award can be picked as an option at Year 9 OR taken as an extra curricular course.  However students decide to tackle it, the course is fun, challenging and most importantly shaped around the things that THEY like doing.

There are 3 different awards that can be earned, Bronze, Silver and Gold.  Each one sets new challenges, gets students involved in the community and helps them to learn new skills.

There are 4 main sections that students will have to complete, these have to be done out of school time….

Effective Learners (inc Gifted & Talented)

At City Academy, we have embedded the principles of psychologist Carol Dweck’s findings on Mindset throughout every part of the Academy, to ensure that all students know they can achieve and be successful.

Our broadened concept of ‘giftedness’ is focused on talent development and relies heavily on the word ‘potential’ rather than the word ‘gifted.’

Our educators ensure that learners have a conceptual understanding of neural connections and believe that with effort and perseverance they can learn, be successful, and grow their intelligence.

After School Clubs

Timetable of what clubs and sessions City Academy Norwich has on offer for students after school.

Brilliant Club

The Brilliant Club is an award winning non-profit organisation that exists to widen access to top universities for outstanding pupils from non-selective state schools. Their primary activity is to recruit, train and place doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in non-selective state schools and sixth form colleges serving low participation communities to deliver programmes of university-style tutorials to small groups of outstanding pupils, which develop the knowledge, skills and ambition that help those pupils to secure places at top universities.

UEA Mentoring

CAN has been working with the UEA on a Mentoring programme for Year 9 students; the aim of this programme is to give students a chance to talk to UEA student ambassadors about university, study skills and options for higher education. The programme is a combination of one to one sessions and e-mentoring.
