EAL (English as an Additional Language) Support at City Academy Norwich
At City Academy Norwich we welcome international students from all over the world and consider those who speak English as an Additional Language as an important part of student life.
Each year The Learning Team at the Academy supports a variety of students from a wide range of countries such as Lithuania, Saudi Arabia and Russia.
New starters can range from complete beginners, to advanced learners of the English language. The Learning Team’s aim is to support students through their early transition and beyond, so they can access and enjoy their educational experiences as much as possible.
We offer a special programme of lessons for students who need initial support with their English. These are designed to improve reading, writing, vocabulary and pronunciation skills, as well as developing confidence. In addition, one to one and in-class supervision is planned to help benefit learners of varying ability levels. In years 9, 10 and 11 students can choose ESOL as an option, which is a course designed specifically to help students with their English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
City Academy Norwich offers a student buddy scheme to all new EAL students. Please click on the documents below to find out more about CAN's EAL 1:1 Reading Club and EAL Induction Course.
