An exciting opportunity has presented itself to students of City Academy Norwich. Two trips have been organised aboard the sailing boat Excelsior and another is planned in October.
The Excelsior is officially one of 60 most important historic ships in Britain. Now lovingly restored to her original 1921 condition, she provides adventure and excitement at sea for groups and individuals from all walks of life. Each year she takes hundreds of people to sea, sailing about 7,000 miles around the western seaboard of Europe and participating in major maritime events such as the Tall Ships Race.
Excelsior offers a unique sailing experience for anyone with a spirit of adventure! She was designed to tackle the demands of the North Sea, and thus her performance under sail is comfortable yet quick, very stable and with a spacious deck area. Her deck layout and rig are almost totally authentic - very easy to work.
Students have 'enjoyed' working as part of the crew for almost a week to sail Excelsior on a return journey from Lowestoft to Holland. All involved can say it has been a truly magnificent experience.
