Norfolk School Games Athletics Finals
This year our Academy took 5 pupils over to the Norfolk School Games Athletics Finals held at the UEA Sportspark. We teamed up with other schools from the Norwich School Sport Partnership (SSP), including Notre Dame, CNS and Norwich High School for Girls to compete against the other 5 SSP’s that make up Norfolk. The level of competition was high throughout the day as our pupils soon found out!
Year 8 – Oskar
Oskar stepped up for the 200m sprint heat and was facing athletes that towered over him. Oskar held his own, but couldn't clinch a space in the final race. Later Oskar competed in the 4x100m Relay and just missed out on 3rd place with his team!
Year 9 – Wilondja
Wilondja competed in the 100m sprint heat, however after a slow start he couldn't’ recover in time before the finish line to take a space in the final. He later raced with his team mates in the 4x100m Relay and his team were neck and neck for 3rd place throughout, with another team pipping them at the finish line, finishing 4th place overall.
Year 9 – Ben
On a windy day, not suited for Javelin, Ben competed but wasn’t able to reach near his personal best of 40.50m. However, he did reach 34m that day and won a bronze medal.
Year 9 – Justas
Justas competed in the Shot Put event but also struggled reaching his personal best of 11.07m, reaching 9.50m. Even though it was not his event Justas stepped up to compete in the Discus to help Norwich gain more points on the day.
Year 10 – Alexandra
Alexandra raced in the 4x100m Relay with her team mates from Notre Dame and Norwich High School for Girls. Alexandra gave her team the best possible start reacting almost immediately after the gun went off, and throughout the race it was neck and neck between us and 2 other teams for 1st place. However, Alexandra’s team mate from Notre Dame put her foot on the accelerator on the final straight and took gold!
